The Coca-Cola Company has recalled about 2,000 cases of Sprite, Diet Coke, and Fanta from shelves in the Deep South due to possible “foreign material” in the cans.
The FDA says the company took the action after receiving a consumer complaint about a can of Sprite that contained a piece of metal. The agency says it is investigating the matter and has not yet determined the source of the contamination.
The recalled products were distributed in Alabama, Florida, Georgia, and South Carolina. Consumers who have purchased any of the affected products are advised to return them to the store for a refund.
This is the second time this year that Coca-Cola has recalled products due to potential contamination. In February, the company recalled nearly 1 million bottles of Dasani water after a customer found a piece of plastic in a bottle.
Coca-Cola says it takes food safety very seriously and is working to ensure that all of its products are safe for consumers. The company says it is working with the FDA to investigate the matter and will take all necessary steps to prevent future recalls.
